Common connection problems

Problem: You are unable to connect to any Internet related service or site.

Symptoms: You cannot retrieve email, get to a web page, listen to Internet radio, etc.

Cause: There are various factors which may impede your ability to connect to the Internet. Simply Bits recommends reducing the number of variables in order to get at the root cause of the problem.

Reboot your router first, most of the times router are left on for months, when they are arriving to the end of their lifespan they trend to lock.

  1. If you are using any type of router (i.e. Linksys, D-Link, Belkin, etc) bypass the router and plug your computer directly into the connection from Simply Bits;
  2. Look for the beige cable coming from the roof which connects to a plastic connector with a flat, black cable on the back. You want to connect the flat, black cable to the Ethernet jack of your computer;
  3. If your computer is not already set to obtain an IP address automatically, change it now
  4. Reboot your computer; If your computer can now connect to the Internet, the Simply Bits connection and service are working and the problem is with your router. Please contact your router manufacturer for further assistance.
  5. If you still cannot connect to the Internet try rebooting the device on the roof. To do so go back to step #2. There is an additional wire that connect to an electric outlet. This connector has a green LED. If the green LED is off, check to make sure you have power to the outlet.
  6. If the LED is lit, unplug it from the electric outlet and wait 30-60 seconds before you plug it back in.
  7. After waiting the designated amount of time plug it back into the electric outlet. It generally takes about 60 seconds for the device on the roof to boot up.
  8. Reboot your computer and test the connection again. If you still cannot connect to the Internet please contact technical support.
