With remote work, distance learning, and increased use of online video services, in the past year, we have seen an increase in bandwidth usage of more than 200%. That’s three times more usage than 2019. We are working night and day to meet these incredible bandwidth demands and continue to increase capacity throughout our network. We will continue to add more network resources to provide you a great Internet experience. While we work diligently to increase our network capacity, we want to remind you of ways you can help. Here's How You Can Help! 1. Streaming. If you're not watching a streaming video, please turn it off. The biggest consumer of bandwidth is video (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, YouTube-TV, Facebook Live etc.). If you want to stream a movie, monitor others in your home trying to play an online game or stream other content at the same time. Be sure to turn off or stop your streaming devices when not in use. Many streaming devices like Fire TV, Roku, etc. will continue to stream video when the connected TV is off. During peak times of Internet use, 8:00AM - 3:00PM (school & work) and 5:00PM - 11:00PM, reduce the resolution of streaming video services to decrease the demand for bandwidth. 4K streams take LARGE amounts of bandwidth. Please consider using Standard Definition (SD) instead. 2. Devices. When not in use, turn off laptops, tablets, computers, and TVs. Close applications that run in the background. 3. Downloads. Downloading can use a lot of bandwidth. This includes computer updates and new operating systems, as well as updates and downloads from gaming consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation. It's helpful if you can schedule downloads on off peak times (11PM – 6:00AM). Some digital subscription services, such as Steam, allow you to set the download rate for games. While we continue to make improvements and increase capacity in our network, we thank you for being conscientious and helpful so everyone may enjoy a better Internet experience. As always, we appreciate you being part of our family! Simply Bits Management www.simplybits.com
