Southern Arizona’s Largest Private Voice And Data Network

History Of Simply Bits

It was early in 2004 when the principals of Simply Bits discovered the office building they had purchased on Sabino Canyon Road did not have the communications infrastructure to support their business needs. The three realized the potential for alternative choices for internet and data networking services to clients in the metro area.

From Left to Right: Joseph Cracchiolo, Bradley Feder, Michael Bernstein: Co-Founders of Simply Bits

Co-managers Bradley Feder, Michael Bernstein and Joseph Cracchiolo have been friends for 25 years, crossing paths while creating technology companies in Tucson. It was only logical that after they sold off their individual companies, they would combine their talents. The result is Simply Bits LLC, a local broadband provider that has been growing by leaps and bounds.

The three principals of Simply Bits have a multitude of entrepreneurial business experiences, industry contacts, and knowledge between them. In 1987 Feder and Cracchiolo founded RightFAX, an electronic fax software, document delivery and fax server product. They sold the company to AVT in 1996 and stayed on to guide the company until 2000. By the time they left the company, "The RightFAX division had 220 employees and did about $60 million in revenue," says Feder. At that point most successful entrepreneurs might have "retired" to a beach, but not these guys. Their love of technology that inspired their success continues to drive them.

Bernstein co-founded MIDAK, a developer of software and hardware for some of the world's leading corporations and government agencies. As president and CEO, Mike guided the transformation of MIDAK to Integra, a mobile computing products company, and ultimately to the acquisition by a Fortune 500 company in 1996. But he too had no interest in retiring. Having been friends for years, the three got together at the end of 2000 and formed Leapscape, an investment firm targeting start-ups. During the next several years they invested in and launched various tech companies, and discovered the potential wireless business broadband technology.

"That's really what got us into wireless." says Feder. "We realized businesses wanted to have choices for their telecommunications services. No longer does the metro area have to default their decision to what used to be the only game in town."

Over the years Simply Bits has aggressively expanded the coverage area of the wireless network. Simply Bits has built Southern Arizona’s largest private voice and data network covering the metro Tucson area, in addition to Marana and most of the I-19 corridor.

Simply Bits has partnered with Motorola to provide hardware for both commercial and residential applications. They install small antennas on the building rooftops and send the two-way broadband signal - through the air, without wires – to and from one of the distribution points that cover 95% of the metro area. A 2,500 square-foot data center in midtown supplies the redundant fiber optic cable feeds to multiple tier 1 providers.

Using the latest Motorola technology Simply Bits can deliver from 1Mbps to 1000Mbps depending on the needs of the client. Over this network Simply Bits can deliver state-of-the-art VoIP phone services and fax services ala cart or in budget friendly bundles. In addition to Simply Bits wireless service, the company has expanded to include complete network design and management as well as consulting and outsourced IT services to large scale business clients, simple web sites, and complete stand alone applications written on Microsoft platform tools such as SharePoint and Dynamics CRM.

Simply Bits continues to look for and hire Southern Arizona’s brightest engineers giving them a place to apply their talent, in a culture that recognizes intelligence, honesty, and commitment to customer service.
