Simply Bits only charges fees or assessments that represent direct pass-through payments to taxing authorities. We are obligated to comply with various federal, state and local government regulations which require us to collect and remit these taxes, which will appear itemized on your bill under the heading, “Taxes.”

The taxes that we bill you will vary based on the type of services you receive from us, the amount you pay for the services and where you live.

Provided below are descriptions of the current taxes and fees that we are obligated to collect:


Federal Universal Service Fund Contribution (USF)

The USF applies to all of the following services:

  • Long distance usage (ad-hoc minutes as well as minutes exceeding a purchased plan allotment);
  • Long distance bulk minute plans;
  • VoIP extension charges

State 911 (e911)

The current rate is $0.20 for each activated account.

Fee collection for the Arizona 911 program is facilitated by the State of Arizona Department of Revenue. For more information, please refer to the Arizona Department of Revenue website at: http://www.azdor.gov/. See also: http://aset.azdoa.gov/arizona-911-program


State/County/City Sales Tax

State, County and City taxes are assessed on telecommunication services, including all of the following:

  • Intrastate toll service charges;
  • Long distance bulk minute plans;
  • VoIP and FoIP services – extension-basis;
  • Various ancillary voice services that carry a separate charge on your bill, including but not limited to: directory listings, ACD queues, voicemail and DIDs.
