Field Technician II – Wireless Internet Installations


Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining wireless Internet equipment in both residential and commercial environments.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Implement voice and data networks by routing, terminating, and splicing CAT5 and CAT6 cables; install and aim wireless voice/data network equipment, routers, switches, cable trays; establish connections; program features; follow industry standards; coordinate with internal support teams and contractors.
  • Verify service by testing circuits and equipment; identify, correct, or escalate problems.
  • Document work by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration, photographing job sites and completed work, and specifications used.
  • Complete all Work Order documentation completely and accurately to ensure a smooth billing process for internal teams and customers.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other members of the field service team to resolve complex issues.
  • Install residential and commercial equipment such as, but not limited to, wireless access points, WiFi routers, VoIP phones and FoIP adapters.
  • Maintain customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and varying requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may function as a technical lead if complicated installations require the assistance of a helper or intern.


Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment and cabling for wireless network communications

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard cabling specifications
  • Communication skills with the ability to successfully collaborate with other members of the team
  • Solid problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail
  • Commitment to abiding by OSHA and all other safety standards and procedures
  • Ability to identify different colors and learn color codes
  • Ability to obtain technical certifications as directed by management; such as, but not limited to, MikroTik MTCTCE and MTCNA certification
  • Ability to work at heights and lift 50+ pounds
