Infrastructure Field Technician

SUMMARY

Role is to perform basic wiring and cabling runs, terminations and certifications while following instructions for assembly and physical configuration of systems and subsystems. Must adhere and contribute to processes and procedures. Employee should always also maintain an organized and clean work area. Experience with a clear understanding of network wiring/cabling principles, including the construction of new sites (Macro, micro, small cell, MTUA, MTUB, etc.). This includes site prep, tower construction, outdoor enclosure installation, communications shelter construction, site grounding system installation and electrical wiring, as needed. Duties include physical installation, upgrading and maintaining radio and networking equipment at company sites, maintaining battery and DC power distribution systems, towers, antennas and cabling along with maintaining and updating as-built documentation, maintenance records and other documentation as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support other Infrastructure Field Technicians and Engineers as needed.
  • Perform basic wiring and cabling runs, terminations and certifications.
  • Follow instructions for assembly and physical configuration of systems and subsystems.
  • Learn processes and procedures to assist in expediting jobs.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area at all times.
  • Construction of sites (Macro, micro, MTUA, MTUB, etc) as defined by Engineering Management.
    • includes site prep, tower construction, outdoor enclosure installation, communications shelter construction, site grounding system installation and electrical wiring, as needed.
  • Physical installation, upgrading and maintaining radio and networking equipment at company sites.
  • Maintaining battery and DC power distribution systems, towers, antennas and cabling.
  • Maintaining and updating as-built documentation, maintenance records and other documentation as necessary.
  • Continual improvement in knowledge of systems and technologies used by Simply Bits.
  • Other duties as directed by manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in the ISP, Networking field, or a related area; Equivalent work experience will be considered;
  • Prefer experience with Mikrotik, Cambium, Mimosa, Siklu or other licensed or unlicensed microwave or millimeter wave products as used in enterprise LAN's and WAN's;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Skilled in the use of personal computer systems, data productivity and communication packages, including but not limited to, Microsoft operating systems, Office applications, Visio diagraming tool;
  • Familiar with industry standard concepts, practices, and procedures;
  • May require relevant job specific training and certification in network and telecom industry topics as directed by management;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Possess strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional, collaborative and effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments to plan and accomplish goals;
  • Maintain confidentiality of company and client records and information;
  • Ability to drive between company office and client sites, as assigned;
  • Ability to work away from the office in an independent manner.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and statistical theory. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required. Some occasional out-of-town and overnight travel will be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Will occasionally be required to evaluate and/or repair equipment that may involve exposure to high voltage, exposed wiring, and/or high temperature components. Risk of personal injury is low. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Frequent exposure to common cleaning chemicals. Occasional exposure to thermal components/chemicals that may or may not be covered by MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). Works within an electro static discharge (ESD) safe environment and exhibits proper ESD safe behavior.
